Beginners Training Course

The Course

Valley Bowmen Archery Club runs several beginners’ courses throughout the year, teaching you about the equipment you’ll use, the basics of shooting a bow and arrow, and safety on the range.
All our Coaches have undertaken specific coaching training from the Irish Field Archery Federation (IFAF) and the International Field Archery Association (IFAA). They have all been vetted by The National Vetting Bureau, and have in addition completed the Safeguarding 1 – Child Welfare & Protection Awareness Course.

The beginners’ course is partly classroom based but the majority will be presented outdoors. The training is typically delivered as small group sessions.

During the course all equipment is provided, and everyone is fully insured while under instruction at the beginners’ course which is presented by our qualified and experienced instructors.

Our beginners’ courses are taught with recurve bows, and basic equipment to get you started in archery.

  • The course consists of three, three-hour training sessions carried out over three consecutive weekends (usually on a Saturday or Sunday 10 am – 1 pm).
  • After you’ve completed your archery beginners’ course, you’ll be eligible to join the Irish Field Archery Federation (IFAF) and become a member of our club.
  • IFAF provides the infrastructure for the sport, sends you a membership card that allows you to shoot almost anywhere in the world, and keeps you up to date through its website, e-mail, and social media about all upcoming events etc.
  • We do have a minimum age of 14 in place at Valley Bowmen as the terrain can be quite challenging and the course length can be long for the younger children.

As we’re a volunteer organisation, we don’t accept bookings for private events. Our coaches and members all devote a significant amount of their free time to the club as it is, and we don’t want to take advantage of that.
If you have a group of people who wish to do a beginner’s course together, we recommend you contact us as early as possible, so we can discuss your requirements. However, we can only coach a limited number of people per course so depending on the size of your group, it may not always be possible.
If you have a physical or visual impairment or anything that you may want to discuss with us, please do get in touch.

Should you require any further information, please contact us through our form below.

We look forward to seeing you at Valley Bowmen for our beginner’s course.

The key to success is to focus our conscious mind on things we desire,
not things we fear.
